Shogran’s most popular attractions are the Siri Paye Lakes, which translate to “high brushing desert.” In Hindko, ‘Paye’ means “high brushing ground.” Paye is a magnificent, verdant hill at an elevation of 2800 meters above Shogran.
While “Siri” means “lake,” it’s a lake opposite Paye Glades. Siri freezes in winter so that you can walk across it. The lake sits at 3,058 meters above sea level—a pristine mountain lake that glimmers in the meadow. Siri Paye is bordered by Makra Peak, Malika Parbat, and Musa ka Musala, all of which host wild yellow and lilac blooms. A 4×4 jeep would be required to reach Sri & Paye meadows. Siri Paye has remained untouched because of its high mountains, tight roads, rocky landslides, and winter snowfall. Paye flowers bloom in a rainbow of colors in spring, with the white Makra Peak in the background. In the winter, it becomes a large meadow of snow.
If you want to go directly to Sri & Paye from Kiwai Waterfall and return to Kiwai the same day, the fare is around 4000 to 5000 PKR in peak season, but it varies in mid-season and off-season, down to 3500 to 4500 PKR. And if you rent the jeep from Kiwai, stay a night in Shogran Valley, and return to Kiwai the next day, the fare may be around 6,500 to 7,000 PKR. In the off-season, the fare may come down to 4,500 to 5,000 PKR.
Jeep fare from Kiwai to Shogran and from Shogran to Sri & Paye is about 3,500 to 4,000 PKR in peak season and will vary in other seasons. The road from Kiwai to Shogran is better, but the road from Shogran to Siri Paye Meadows is in poor condition, with many bumps. In the rainy season, the muddier route makes the road extremely slippery and hazardous. Siri Paye Meadows is a roughly 1-hour round trip from Shogran.
Some travelers try to reach Shogran Valley by car, which can be fatal in some cases. Road conditions to Shogran from Kewai are better, but for safety, it’s still best to hire a jeep for this track.
