Batakundi, alternatively spelled Battakundi (Northern Hindko: بٹہ کنڈی, Urdu: بٹہ کنڈی), is a tourist town situated 15 kilometers to the east of Naran in the Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is positioned within the Kaghan Valley.
Batakundi is found in the Mansehra District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. While heading towards Babusar, Batakundi is the first town encountered after Naran. It lies along the Karakoram Highway (KKH) and serves as a stop for jeep travelers. It represents the initial destination on the Mansehra-Naran-Jalkhad-Chilas Road leading to Babusar Top, with paths extending further to Lalazar and Gilgit-Baltistan.
The Batakundi Waterfall is a prominent attraction in the area. Visitors frequently choose to stay at hotels in Batakundi when they plan to travel to Babusar Top. Batakundi is the last town in the Kaghan Valley that remains operational year-round. Many tourists visit the town to admire the Batakundi Waterfall, which features numerous hotels and restaurants.
In 2014, the Batakundi Hydropower Project (HPP) was initiated in the region by the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO) on the Kunhar River basin. The feasibility studies for the project were later completed. This initiative was recognized by the Sarhad Hydel Development Organization (SHYDO), now known as PEDO, with assistance from the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) as part of the assessment of hydropower potential in the Kaghan Valley.
