In 1983, a resort was built on the banks of Lower Kachura Lake, also known as Shangrila Lake. It is about 20 minutes from Skardu town. Lost Horizon was a book written by James Hilton that was the inspiration for the name Shangrila. In Chinese, the word Shangri-la means ‘Heaven on earth’.
Shangrilla Room rates started from Rs.30,000 (Lake View Room) per night to Rs.75,000 (Presidential Suits).
The entry price for locals is Rs.500, while the price for foreigners is Rs.1000.
Restaurants at the Pagoda include Lake View Rest, DC3 Cafe, Rock Lounge Cafe, Snack Bar, Conference facilities, View Point, a mini-zoo, trout hatchery, boating, jogging track, and hiking. On the Serene Lakeside, Shangrila offers elegantly furnished cottages and VIP suites.
An entire round of the lake costs between Rs.1000 and Rs.2000 per person for scenic boating.
This resort is located at a distance of 25000 meters (8000 feet) commonly referred to as “The Roof of The World” because of its spectacular beauty and breathtaking views.
