Lower Kachura, also known as Shangrila, receives its name from Tibetan, where, Shang means place, Ri means mountains, and La means pass. Originally, the name was coined by James Hilton in his novel “The Lost Horizon”. According to Hilton, a plane crashed near a riverbed. After the plane crash, the survivors were taken to a place called Shangrila by monks living nearby.
